So many people start training programmes; go to a gym or start running to improve their physical state, to look better but we think the benefits go beyond this.

Regardless of your age or your fitness levels, studies over the past 10 years have shown that exercise and training provide some serious mental health benefits.

•Reduce your stress levels: Rough day? Take a walk, go for a jog or hit the gym. One of exercises biggest benefits is stress relief. Exercise also increases concentrations of norepinephrine, a chemical that can moderate the brain’s response to stress. So go ahead and get sweaty — working out can reduce stress and boost the body’s ability to deal with existing mental tension. Win-win!

•Boost the happy chemicals: Slogging through a few miles on the treadmill can be tough so can training when you’re a bit down or not feeling up to it, but it’s worth the effort! Exercise releases endorphins, which create feelings of happiness and euphoria. Studies have shown that exercise can even alleviate symptoms among the clinically depressed. For this reason, professionals recommend that people suffering from depression or anxiety pencil in plenty of gym and time to exercise. In some cases, exercise can be just as effective as antidepressant pills in treating depression. Don’t worry if you’re not exactly the gym type — getting a happy buzz from working out for just 30 minutes a few times a week can instantly boost overall mood.

•Improve Self-Confidence: Head out for a run, do a session in a gym near you to instantly feel better and it will also improve your self-confidence almost immediately. Regardless of age, weight, gender exercise can boost your self-esteem and promote a positive self-image for someone, this is vital, it’s so important to be happy and confident with and in yourself, regular exercise can help you reach that positive self-image.

•Alleviate Anxiety: Which is better than alleviating anxiety, a warm relaxing bath or a 30 min workout? You will be surprised at the answer! The 30 minute workout of course! The happy hormones and chemicals that the body releases after exercise can help people with anxiety to calm down and relax. Hoping on the treadmill, going for a run or going to the gym for some moderate to high intensity exercise greatly reduces anxiety and stress sensitivity in everyone! Intervals anyone?

•Get more done: Feeling uninspired today? The solution might just be a short 30 minutes away. People who make time for regular exercise have more energy that their sedentary co-workers. If you’re feeling sluggish and tired at work, try and get a lunch time 30 minutes in, even a walk or a small jog will do. You will return to work refreshed, full of energy and full of ideas.
