Ladies Resistance! - Shane Finn

Written by

Ladies let’s face it; we are filled with so many different theories and opinions in the area of Health & Fitness, especially in the area of Fat Loss and Weight Loss. Next time you pick up a Fitness Magazine that’s filled with perfectly sculpted looking women standing on a Bosu Ball with one leg ask yourself how does she look like that? Please note she is also photo shopped and air brushed!

This is not the type of workout you need, it won’t help you get in shape, look toned, lose fat or drop them last few pounds. It will help you stand with one leg on a Bosu Ball. What you need is a form of Resistance Training. Resistance training is defined as working out using a weighted object, a weighted machine or one’s own bodyweight. Many ladies in recent years are afraid of Resistance Training because they don’t want to “look big & muscular” or “I don’t want to look like a man”. You can’t get big & muscular and you will not look like a man. Women don’t have the high testosterone levels that men have nor do they have any of the other muscle building hormones that guys have.

A few benefits of Resistance Training for Women

•Banish Body Fat & Boost your metabolism – As lean muscle tissue increases so does your resting metabolism, win – win here ladies, do some resistance training and you will burn calories for hours after your workout. For every pound of muscle you put on you will burn and extra 35-50 calories a day.

•Reduce your risk of Injury, Back Pain, Arthritis & Osteoporosis   – Resistance Training not only helps build stronger muscles, it also builds stronger connective tissues and increases joint stability. Resistance Training increases bone density which will lessen your risk of getting Osteoporosis later in life.

•Reduce your risk of heart disease - Resistance Training has been shown to improve cardiovascular health on countless occasions & studies. It aids in decreasing bad cholesterol and increasing good cholesterol and lower blood pressure.

•You will look really good – First off, you can always tell the difference between a woman who resistance trains and a woman who doesn’t. The woman who does, looks good, feels good, is confident, has tonnes of energy, has less body fat. The woman who doesn’t has low energy levels, feels sluggish, isn’t happy with her figure or image and has a higher body fat. You want to be the first girl right?

How do you Resistance Train?

•Resistance can be done anywhere in the world, at any time. At home use your sitting room, on holidays use your hotel room, use a local gym, and use a park. Anywhere!! Get moving. Take part in group workouts like Bootcamps, Kettlebells & Spinning.

•Stuck for time? Do 10 x 100 metre sprints. Your bodyweight is the resistance. Go as fast as you can far 100 metres, walk back & go again.

Effective training and correct eating can produce amazing and lifelong results, because you are burning fat. Note we said fat there, often people lose a lot of weight but they keep all the fat. That’s not the desired end result! Remember, train hard, eat well and you will look really good!
