Féile na Soilse
Dingle, Dec. 6th, 7th & 8th - 2013.
Dingle Chamber of Commerce, together with Dingle Peninsula Tourism are promoting Christmas on the Dingle Peninsula 2013 with a festive celebration entitled ‘Féile na Soilse’. This event was hugely successful over the last few years and we hope to build on that success this year with the addition of a number of special events to coincide with the official lighting of the Christmas Lights & Tree in the town.
Special events include:
Beidh Scoil Dhún Chaoin ag ceiliúradh 100 bliain ar an bhfód an bhliain seo chugainn.
Cuirfimíd fáilte mhór roimh ghrianghrafanna agus aon earraí cuimhneacháin eile a bheadh oiriúnach do Leabhar Cuimhneacháin na Scoile agus don taispeántas ar Stair na Scoile.
Cuirfear fáilte mhór leis roimh altanna ó éinne gur mhaith leo a gcuimhní cinn a bhreacadh síos ar shaol na scoile.
Dingle’s Nuala Moore has been nominated as World Open Water Woman of the Year. Having been part of the successful team who crossed the Bering Strait earlier this year the nomination caps a very satisfying 2013 for Nuala.
The World Open Water Swimming Association selects it’s nominees from “individuals with exceptionally inspirational exploits, histories and lifestyles. These individuals best embody the spirit of open water swimming, possess the sense of adventure, tenacity and perseverance that open water swimmers are known for, and have positively influenced the world of open water swimming”.
Steven Munatones from the association said of Nuala:
“Given the criteria, the choice of Nuala Moore was a slam dunk. Not only did she participate in ice swims around the world, swimming 1 km in water that was near 0°C, but she also was an integral part of the Bering Strait Swim and the Irish Long Distance Swimming Association with its busy summer of North Channel crossings. And true to her nature, she was always taking interest in and care of others on her team. “
Voting is open to everyone on the associations website
www.worldopenwaterswimmingassociation.com. You must register with your email address to log in so as to prevent block voting. Nuala is listed as one of the nominees in the Woman of the Year section.

Our first taster walk on Sun 27th October was along the windswept coastline of Dunquin It was a spectacular trek along the edge of the sea as the rolling waves broke on the shore below us. Despite the conditions eleven newcomers joined us for a 2½ hour walk which began and ended in the Blasket Centre.
A 2nd taster walk will be arranged on Sunday next, 10th November. Non-members are welcome to participate on this walk which will be held in the ancient valley of Loch an Dùn on the northern side of the Conor Pass. While this is a low level walk lasting 2/2½, the route will take us over some rough and rocky terrain where walking boots or strong footwear is highly recommended.
This is another opportunity for anyone who is considering joining our club or just interested in testing themselves on the lower slopes to experience the outdoors with us.
The meeting point will be Garvey’s Supervalue at 10am or Kilmore Cross (junction on road from Dingle to Cloghane) at 10,30am. In addition to strong footwear waterproof clothing is also advised on this particular walk.

Am Spraoi – Dingle Playground committee firstly want to thank all the courageous people (who are so much fitter than the Am Spraoi committee) for their willingness to participate in the Dingle Triathlon on September 21st. Please join them in by sponsoring them as we try and get a step closer to have a fine new playground for the people of Corca Dhuibhne. Entering as individual we have Jason Courtney and Lorcán Slattery. We have two teams as well, one team is Nuala Moore, Mick Davis and Aimee O’Connor, the other team is Fionnuala Donegan, Fionna Sheehy and a secret cyclist!
We are very grateful to Brian Galvin Dingle Triathlon organizer for giving us the entries as a gesture of support to Am Spraoi.
The entrants all have sponsorship cards but the cards can also be found in – West Kerry Live, Sheehy’s Spa, Ventry Post Office, Siopa Cosaí, The Goat Street Bistro, Moran’s Supermarket, Walsh’s Chemists and probably a few other places so please keep an eye out for them.
